Find answers to the most common questions about Sůlmate Sodium-Ion batteries, marine integration, charging systems and long-term performance.

What is a Sodium-Ion battery?

Sodium-Ion batteries are an emerging energy storage technology that uses sodium-based materials instead of lithium. They offer high thermal stability, long cycle life and reliable performance across a wide range of operating conditions, making them well suited for marine and recreational applications.

Sodium-Ion chemistry offers high thermal stability and a reduced risk of thermal runaway compared with many conventional lithium-ion chemistries. This makes it particularly attractive for marine and recreational applications where safety, temperature stability and reliability are important.

Sůlmate Sodium-Ion batteries are designed for approximately 3,000–5,000 charge and discharge cycles, depending on depth of discharge, temperature, charging parameters and operating conditions. This can provide many years of dependable service in typical marine and recreational applications.

Like all rechargeable batteries, Sodium-Ion batteries gradually lose some capacity over their service life. The rate of capacity loss depends on factors such as temperature, depth of discharge, charging parameters and usage patterns. Proper system configuration and operation can help maximize battery life and maintain reliable performance over many years.

In many cases, yes. Sůlmate Sodium-Ion batteries can replace AGM or Lead-Acid batteries in existing marine and recreational energy systems. Compatibility depends on the existing charging equipment, voltage settings and overall system configuration. The installation should be checked for compatibility before replacement..

In many cases, existing charging equipment can be used, provided its charging profile is compatible with the battery specifications. For 12V Sůlmate batteries, charging voltage and other charger settings must remain within the specified operating limits. Chargers with automatic equalization or other charging modes intended specifically for Lead-Acid batteries should be checked before use.

For best performance and service life, we recommend verifying the charger settings before installation.

In many installations, the existing inverter can remain in service. Compatibility depends on the inverter specifications, battery voltage, power requirements and system configuration. Where an inverter/charger is used, the charging parameters should also be verified for compatibility with the battery specifications.

We recommend checking the system configuration before installation.

Sůlmate batteries can be used with many Victron Energy system configurations, provided the charging parameters, voltage limits and overall system setup are compatible with the battery specifications. Communication features such as CAN-Bus integration depend on the specific battery model and system configuration.

Compatibility and communication settings should be verified before installation.

Sůlmate batteries are designed to support integration with NMEA 2000 marine networks. Depending on the battery model and system configuration, battery information such as voltage, current, state of charge and other operating data can be made available to compatible onboard monitoring systems.

Final integration and available data parameters depend on the specific installation and connected equipment.

NMEA 2000 is a standardized communication network widely used in the marine industry. It allows compatible onboard equipment such as navigation systems, engines, battery systems and monitoring devices to exchange data over a common network.

Series and parallel configurations may be possible depending on the specific battery model, BMS configuration and system requirements. The permitted number of batteries and connection configuration must follow the technical specifications for the respective battery model.

Always verify the approved configuration before installation.

The Battery Management System (BMS) continuously monitors key parameters such as voltage, current and temperature. It helps protect the battery against operating conditions outside defined limits and supports safe, reliable and efficient battery operation.

Sůlmate batteries are developed with marine and recreational applications in mind. Their intelligent BMS, stable Sodium-Ion chemistry and system integration capabilities support reliable operation in demanding onboard energy systems. Proper installation and compliance with the specified operating conditions remain essential for reliable long-term performance.

Sodium is widely available and Sodium-Ion technology can reduce dependence on certain critical raw materials used in conventional battery technologies. This offers potential advantages in terms of resource availability and supply-chain resilience. The overall environmental impact of a battery, however, also depends on factors such as manufacturing, energy use, service life and recycling.
